We are an independent Georgia news and investigative journalism operation built around a simple principle:
People deserve facts, government deserves scrutiny, and journalism should answer to the public rather than popularity.
Our mission can be summarized in four words:
People. Facts. Accountability. A Stronger Georgia.
JAW GA News exists to investigate questions that matter to ordinary people, examine the actions of public institutions, dig through records, challenge conflicting information, document what we find, and give communities a place where legitimate questions are taken seriously.
We are not interested in becoming another outrage factory.
We are not interested in publishing something merely because it confirms what people already want to believe.
And we certainly are not interested in treating government press releases as the final word simply because somebody printed them on official letterhead.
We investigate.
We verify.
We question.
We document.
And when the evidence changes, our reporting must change with it.

WHO IS JAW GA NEWS?
JAW GA News is an independent investigative news organization focused primarily on Georgia government, public safety, courts, public records, community issues and government accountability.
Our coverage can extend from a small Georgia town to county government, state agencies and federal institutions operating within Georgia.
Some stories begin with a court filing.
Others begin with an Open Records Act request.
Some begin with government meeting minutes, financial documents, police records, body-camera footage, POST records or an official statement that simply does not appear to match the documentary record.
And sometimes a story begins with one citizen asking:
“Why?”
That question matters.
Why was this decision made?
Why was this money spent?
Why was this investigation closed?
Why was it reopened?
Why does one government record contradict another?
Why was information withheld?
Why did an official statement change?
Why does the timeline not make sense?
Why has nobody asked this question publicly?
Those questions do not automatically prove wrongdoing.
They establish something far more basic:
There is something worth examining.
That is where journalism begins.
WE ARE INDEPENDENT
JAW GA News does not exist to serve a political party, government agency, police department, activist organization or ideological movement.
Accountability cannot work that way.
A Republican official does not deserve less scrutiny because Republicans support him.
A Democratic official does not deserve less scrutiny because Democrats support her.
A police officer is not automatically guilty because someone makes an accusation.
A police officer is also not automatically beyond scrutiny because he or she wears a badge.
A government agency does not become trustworthy merely because it is a government agency.
And a citizen’s allegation does not become factual merely because government institutions are unpopular.
Evidence determines where the story goes.
That standard can frustrate everybody eventually.
Good.
Journalism should not require membership in somebody’s tribe.
DOCUMENTS BEFORE NARRATIVES
JAW GA News places substantial emphasis on primary documentation.
Whenever possible, our investigations are built from materials such as:

• Open Records Act responses
• Criminal investigative records
• Arrest and incident reports
• Georgia POST records
• Government meeting minutes
• Financial records
• Government contracts
• Audits
• Policies and procedures
• Personnel records when legally available
• Body-camera and surveillance evidence

• Official statements
• Public databases
• Federal and state records
• Historical archives
• Direct responses from agencies and officials
Documents are not infallible.
Government records can contain mistakes. Witnesses can contradict one another. Reports can omit context. Different investigations can reach different conclusions.
That is precisely why we cross-check.
One document may tell us something.
Twenty documents may tell us whether the first one makes sense.
WE DISTINGUISH FACT FROM ALLEGATION
This principle is fundamental to JAW GA News.
There is a difference between:
Someone said it happened.
A document says it happened.
Evidence supports that it happened.
and:
A court determined that it happened.
Those are not interchangeable statements.
When someone is accused of wrongdoing, we attempt to identify the allegation as an allegation.
When allegations are disputed, readers should know they are disputed.
When charges have been filed, we distinguish charges from convictions.
When litigation has been filed, we distinguish allegations contained in a lawsuit from judicial findings.
When someone has been cleared, acquitted or had charges dismissed, that belongs in the record too.
Accuracy does not have a favorite outcome.
ACCOUNTABILITY WITHOUT HARASSMENT
JAW GA News believes strongly in government accountability.
That does not mean harassment.
Public officials should expect legitimate scrutiny concerning their official conduct, government decisions and exercise of public authority.
Journalists can ask difficult questions without threatening people.
We can challenge explanations without stalking officials.
We can criticize government without manufacturing evidence.
We can expose documented contradictions without inventing motives we cannot prove.
The objective is accountability.
Not intimidation.
That distinction matters.
WHY JAW GA NEWS PROTECTS ITS FOUNDER’S IDENTITY
The individual behind JAW GA News operates publicly as JAW.
Personal identifying information is intentionally kept separate from the newsroom’s public identity for safety and privacy.
That anonymity does not eliminate accountability for what JAW GA News publishes.
Our work must stand on evidence.
Readers should evaluate our reporting by examining the records, sources, methodology, corrections and reasoning behind it rather than by deciding whether they personally like the journalist.
The evidence is the point.
Not the personality behind the keyboard.
MEET SHERLOCK
AI Investigative Journalist | JAW GA News
JAW GA News also operates with an unusual member of the newsroom.
His name is Sherlock.
Sherlock is an artificial-intelligence investigative journalist and research partner working alongside JAW.
We disclose that openly because transparency should apply to journalists too.
Sherlock is not a human reporter.
He does not physically visit crime scenes.
He does not personally witness events.
He does not possess government authority.
He does not carry a badge.
He cannot independently authenticate reality simply because a computer generated an answer.
And Sherlock does not make the final editorial decisions for JAW GA News.
What he can do is enormously useful.
WHAT SHERLOCK DOES
Sherlock assists JAW GA News with research-intensive investigative work.
That can include analyzing lengthy government documents, comparing records, organizing timelines, identifying contradictions, reviewing court information, examining public statements, locating additional sources, structuring investigations and challenging assumptions.
Think of Sherlock as another investigator sitting at the newsroom desk.
Except his desk can contain several thousand pages without collapsing.
His responsibilities can include:
DOCUMENT ANALYSIS
Large records collections can contain important details buried hundreds of pages apart.
Sherlock helps identify names, dates, agencies, events, statements and relationships across those records.
TIMELINE CONSTRUCTION
Investigations often depend on chronology.
What happened?
When?
Who knew about it?
What happened next?
When did the official explanation change?
Building a reliable timeline can expose both genuine contradictions and apparent contradictions that disappear once the chronology is understood.
Both outcomes matter.
CROSS-CHECKING
A sheriff’s statement might say one thing.
A court filing might say another.
A news report may introduce additional context.
An investigative report may provide something different again.
Sherlock helps compare those sources rather than automatically accepting whichever version sounds most dramatic.
PUBLIC-RECORD RESEARCH
Government accountability frequently requires navigating agencies, records systems, court databases, historical archives and public information.
Sherlock assists in identifying where relevant documentation may exist and how different records relate to one another.
PATTERN RECOGNITION
A single incident can be isolated.
Multiple documented incidents can reveal a pattern worth investigating.
Sherlock helps identify recurring names, policies, procedures, expenditures, disciplinary matters and institutional practices that deserve closer examination.
DEVIL’S ADVOCATE
This may be one of Sherlock’s most important jobs.
He is expected to challenge our own conclusions.
If JAW develops a theory, Sherlock should ask:
What evidence contradicts it?
Is there another reasonable explanation?
Are we treating inference as fact?
Are we missing context?
Can this claim actually be documented?
Finding evidence that destroys your favorite theory is not investigative failure.
It is investigative progress.
Better that we discover the problem before publication than our readers discover it afterward.
WHAT SHERLOCK DOES NOT DO
Artificial intelligence has limitations.
It can misunderstand information.
It can misinterpret context.
It can produce incorrect information.
It can make connections that appear meaningful but are coincidental.
That means AI output alone is not evidence.
If Sherlock identifies a potential fact important enough to publish, JAW GA News should seek the underlying source.
If Sherlock finds a court case, we examine the court record.
If Sherlock identifies an official statement, we locate the statement.
If Sherlock detects a contradiction, we compare the underlying materials.
The principle is simple:
AI can point toward evidence. AI does not magically become the evidence.

A typical investigation may begin with a tip, public record, court case, government statement, news report or community concern.
From there:

What exactly are we trying to establish?
2. Gather documentation.
Find the strongest available primary sources.
3. Build the timeline.
Determine what happened and when.
4. Separate facts from allegations.
Mark what is documented, disputed, alleged, inferred and unknown.
5. Cross-check.
Compare records against other records.
6. Challenge the theory.
Actively search for evidence that contradicts our working interpretation.
7. Seek responses.
When appropriate, contact officials, agencies or other relevant parties.
8. Reassess.
Determine whether the evidence actually supports the story we thought we had.
9. Report.
Tell readers what the evidence establishes, what remains disputed and what we still do not know.
10. Keep watching.
Investigative journalism rarely ends when the Publish button gets clicked.
OUR GEORGIA ACCOUNTABILITY MISSION
JAW GA News is building toward something larger than individual news stories.
We want to create a lasting public-accountability resource covering all 159 Georgia counties.
County by county.
City by city.
Agency by agency.
Official by official.
Case by case.
That includes government transparency, public spending, courts, law enforcement, public officials, government investigations, civil litigation, criminal proceedings, ethics matters, disciplinary records and other significant questions involving public authority.
Some counties may generate substantial reporting.
Others may have little or nothing warranting inclusion.
That is perfectly acceptable.
We will not manufacture controversy simply to fill a database.
The objective is not to prove that government is corrupt.
The objective is to determine what the evidence actually shows.
Sometimes that evidence may expose misconduct.
Sometimes it may reveal incompetence.
Sometimes it may uncover systemic problems.
Sometimes it may demonstrate that an accusation was wrong.
All four outcomes are legitimate journalism.
SOURCES AND WHISTLEBLOWERS
Government employees, public officials, law-enforcement personnel, attorneys, witnesses and ordinary citizens sometimes possess information the public deserves to know.
JAW GA News welcomes credible information.
But tips are starting points.
They are not automatically stories.
We attempt to corroborate significant claims independently before presenting them as fact.
Documentation matters.
Context matters.
Authenticity matters.
And protecting legitimate confidential sources matters.
CORRECTIONS ARE PART OF JOURNALISM
We will make mistakes.
Every newsroom does.
The relevant question is what happens afterward.
If JAW GA News publishes something materially incorrect, we should correct it.
If new evidence changes an investigation, we should update it.
If someone we scrutinized is cleared, that belongs in our coverage.
If an allegation collapses under examination, we do not quietly pretend otherwise.
Credibility is not built by never admitting error.
It is built by refusing to defend an error simply because admitting it is uncomfortable.
Our standard is not perfection.
Our standard is intellectual honesty.
WE DON’T ASK FOR BLIND TRUST
This may be the most important thing we can tell our readers.
Do not believe JAW GA News simply because JAW GA News said something.
Examine the evidence.
Read the documents.
Consider competing explanations.
Check our sources.
Question our reasoning.
Hold us to the same standard we demand from government.
That is exactly how it should work.
We are not trying to build credibility through popularity.
We are building trust through credibility.
Those are very different things.

JAW GA News exists because communities deserve journalists willing to ask questions after everyone else has stopped asking them.
Sometimes accountability requires confrontation.
Sometimes it requires patience.
Sometimes it means digging through records late into the night until one sentence buried in an obscure document changes the entire direction of an investigation.
And sometimes accountability means admitting the evidence does not support what we originally suspected.
The mission remains the same.
Follow the evidence.
Not the crowd.
Not political allegiance.
Not government authority.
Not social-media outrage.
Not our own assumptions.
The evidence.
Because public records belong to the public.
Public officials work for the public.
Public institutions exercise authority granted by the public.
And journalism exists, in part, to ensure that power never becomes invisible simply because examining it is inconvenient.
That is who we are.
