The JAW GA News Georgia Accountability Index is a statewide public-interest database covering federal, state, county and municipal government throughout Georgia.
Our mission is straightforward:
Document public power. Verify the facts. Follow the records. Hold government accountable.
The index covers all 159 Georgia counties, their cities and towns, and public officials or government personnel whose conduct, decisions, administration, use of public resources or exercise of governmental authority is the subject of significant documented scrutiny.

JAW GA News distinguishes among allegations, documented facts, administrative investigations, criminal investigations, arrests, indictments, civil lawsuits, disciplinary proceedings, ethics matters, audits, judicial findings, convictions and resolved cases.
An accusation is not a fact merely because someone posted it online.
An arrest is not a conviction.
A lawsuit is not proof of liability.
An investigation does not establish misconduct.
A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Where allegations are disputed, that fact will be reported.
Where someone is cleared, charges are dismissed, litigation is resolved or evidence materially changes the story, the Accountability Index should be updated accordingly.

Accountability journalism cannot operate under a one-way-door policy.
If:
• Charges are dismissed
• A person is acquitted
• An investigation clears an official
• A lawsuit is dismissed
• Allegations are disproven
• POST takes no action
• An ethics complaint is rejected
• A court reverses a ruling
• New evidence materially changes the case
the Accountability Index will reflect that development prominently.
We will not quietly preserve an outdated accusation after the evidence changes.
Accountability applies to journalism too.
